March 12, 2020 (BOISE, ID)– Bogus Basin General Manager, Brad Wilson, believes that every kid in the Treasure Valley should have a chance to visit the mountain recreation area, located 16 miles above Boise. Through the introduction of year-round offerings, snowmaking, and other improvements, the once-struggling nonprofit has rebounded financially in recent years. With Wilson’s “every kid” goal in mind, Bogus Basin is expanding its outreach efforts, serving a record number of youth through new and long-time partnerships that focus on getting kids into the outdoors.
“I don’t know of another ski area in the country that works closely with community partners to help get kids to the mountain to learn and have fun,” said Wilson. “The fact that providing these opportunities is part of our mission is one of the greatest benefits of being a nonprofit.”
With March only halfway over, nearly 1,500 kids have already participated in outings:
-More than 1,000 students from 20 schools throughout the Treasure Valley have traveled to Bogus Basin with their classmates to participate in the School Nights program
-Nearly 200 junior high and high school AVID students from throughout the Boise School District earned a trip to Bogus Basin by meeting academic benchmarks
-Over 200 students participated in SnowSchool, a science-based learning experience that compliments classroom curriculum
Events over the March 13-15 weekend will bring even more kids to Bogus Basin to learn and enjoy the thrill of mountain recreation in different ways:
2nd Annual SheJumps Wild Skills Junior Patrol at Bogus Basin
Sunday, March 15th, 8am-4pm
Wild Skills Junior Patrol is a day camp where girls learn mountain safety and first aid while working with the strong women of the mountain community. Throughout the day, 30 girls, ages 8-17, will be taught a range of outdoor skills that are utilized by ski patrollers to keep the mountain safe. Topics include: first aid, avalanche control, snow science, weather stations, toboggans, avalanche rescue techniques, avalanche dogs, and much more.

Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation’s Intermountain Division (IMD) Alpine Championships
Friday, March 13-Sunday, March 15
BBSEF will host 200 North Series and South Series U10-U12 (8-11 year old) athletes March 13-15 for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association Intermountain Division Alpine Championships.
100 female and 100 male alpine racers will compete for Intermountain Division Championship honors in Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Parallel Panel Slalom.
Skiers will compete on the Lower Ridge and Bowl runs off of the Deerpoint Chair– with the finish corral situated just outside the Simplot Lodge at the base area.
WHO IS COMPETING: Racers from Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah qualified for IMD Championships based on each skier’s results in three home series Alpine events. The championship roster includes athletes from Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation, Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, McCall Winter Sports Club, Brighton Ski Team, Park City Ski & Snowboard Team, Pebble Creek Ski Team, Rowmark Ski Academy, Snowbasin Sports Education Foundation, Snowbird Sports Education Foundation, Solitude Race Team, Sundance Ski Team, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, and Teton Valley Ski Education Foundation.
