BOGUS BASIN TO EXTEND 80th ANNIVERSARY “FAIRYTALE” WINTER SEASON
The non-profit plans to continue winter operations through May 6, the latest date in its 80 year history
BOISE, Idaho – April 1, 2023 – After receiving nearly four feet of new snow in recent days – including a record-shattering 24” storm on March 30 – Bogus Basin has announced plans to extend its 2022-23 80th Anniversary winter season. The area received 119” of snow in March alone – more than January (36”) and February (48”) combined. The non-profit will operate daily through April 16, and then transition to Fridays – Sundays through April 30. Weather and conditions permitting, the area will end its historic season with an aMAYzing 100″ party on Saturday, May 6.
Snow depth measurements at Bogus Basin have taken place since 1942 (except 1943, due to WWII), at the Bogus Basin Snow Course, which predates Bogus Basin’s SNOTEL automated weather station by more than half a century. Until yesterday, the maximum snow depth measurement was 102” on April 1, 1983. On March 31, Bogus Basin’s SNOTEL site registered an unprecedented snow depth of 113”.
Bogus Basin’s current base snow depth, at 116”, represents another rare benchmark – exceeding 100”. This has happened only a few times in the area’s history, most recently in March 2019 when the area celebrated “FebruBuried” after receiving over 11 feet of snow in February. The May 6 celebration will commemorate this achievement and bring to a close on what has been an epic 2022-23 winter season.
