July 25, 2016 (BOISE, ID)– Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation’s summer outdoor learning program, Mountain Discovery Camp, is in high gear. The program connects children and nature, encourages active lifestyles, teaches science-based concepts, and builds community in the Boise National Forest for Treasure Valley residents. Mountain Discovery Camp offers many ways for participants to engage with the natural world.
This summer marks the second year of a new program in collaboration with the Boise School District, and offers elementary age students enrolled in summer school the opportunity to participate in the camp. Recently, a group of 30, 4th through 6th graders enrolled in Morley Nelson’s summer school program had the chance to spend a day on the mountain. Instructors led them in activities designed to emphasize the critical role that nature and access to the natural world play in health childhood development.
This year, nine weeks of camp will be offered to more than 300 kids. Camp counselors, comprised of interns from Boise State University’s IDoTeach STEM Preparation program, paid staff and volunteers, all receive a full week of training. Each day has a different theme: from immersion on Monday, to mystery, ecology, adventure, and survival day on Friday. For more information, visit www.bogusbasin.org.

Bogus Basin is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin offers 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain, and 165 acres for night skiing; seven lifts and two people-mover carpets; and an 800-foot tubing hill.
