February 6, 2017 (BOISE, ID)– Nearly 400 Treasure Valley students will soon have a chance to try skiing or snowboarding at Bogus Basin, many for the very first time. The outing, part of an ongoing partnership between Bogus Basin and Boise School District, was earned by students enrolled in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). The AVID program targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. The day trip to Bogus Basin includes equipment rental, ski and snowboard lessons, lift ticket, lunch, and transportation.
The incentive was awarded to junior high and senior high school aged students who achieved certain academic benchmarks. “This collaboration is an example of how Bogus Basin works with community partners to achieve our mission of making local mountain recreation affordable and accessible,” said Susan Saad, Bogus Basin Director of Community Relations.
This marks the fourth season that Bogus Basin and Boise School District have collaborated on the AVID program project, and over 1,000 students have participated. Teachers report that the incentive influences students to perform better academically, fostered a “team” mentality, and encouraged them to learn new skills in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
