Today’s Guided nature Program…

NATURAL GOURMET- EDIBLE PLANTS OF BOGUS BASIN

Many years ago, all people were naturalists by necessity. Their survival depended on an intimate and comprehensive knowledge of the plants and animals around them. Edibility, abundance, and seasonal availability were critical pieces of information. Participants on this hike have the opportunity to learn about and sample wild edible plants in the Bogus Basin area. Topics include botany basics, ecology of plant communities, plant families, and the ethics of collecting wild foods. This program is only one of the many guided nature programs offered this summer.

Meet your Guide!

Hit the trail with Ray Vizgirdas, retired Wildlife Biologist and lifelong Naturalist for this installment of our Guided Nature Program series. With over three decades of experience working for state and federal agencies, Ray knows a thing or two about the outdoors (he has literally authored guidebooks about the flora at Bogus Basin!). On Saturday mornings/afternoons and Tuesday evenings, Ray covers a new topic relevant to the time of year. Whether it’s wildflowers and edible/useful plants or nature photography and animal behavior, you’re bound to learn a thing or two on your outing.
