BOGUS BASIN ANNOUNCES PLANS TO EXTEND 2023-24 WINTER SEASON
The non-profit will operate daily through April 14th, close April 15th – 19th, then reopen for its final, fun-filled weekend April 20th-21st
BOISE, Idaho – April 5, 2023 – Bogus Basin announced today that winter season operations will continue through Sunday, April 21st, a week later than originally planned. Conditions remain excellent for skiers and riders at the area, where 66” of snow has fallen since March, and more is in the forecast. To commemorate the final weekend of operations, a host of events, including the Annual Pond Skim, live music, prizes, and other activities, are planned.
Seven-day operations are scheduled to continue through Sunday, April 14th. The area will close April 15th – 19th, then reopen April 20th-21st for a season finale weekend, highlighted by its annual Pond Skim. The event features skiers and riders dressed up in wild and wacky costumes who try to make it across a temporary pond constructed in the base area. All season pass types, including midweek, Twilight, Nordic and Night, will be honored the final weekend.
At the onset of the season, Bogus Basin capitalized on investments in snowmaking and grooming technology to confront drier-than-usual conditions head-on. Record-breaking snowmaking efforts in December allowed the area to fully operate in time for the holiday season, and momentum continued through the season’s strong finish with the arrival of above-average snowfall that is continuing into April.

In other season highlights, and in line with its mission and commitment to the local community, Bogus Basin welcomed thousands of students from across the Treasure Valley to participate in its longstanding education programs. Nearly 5,000 students from 93 schools engaged in LifeSports, an initiative offering lessons, equipment rentals, and discounted tickets. In February, over 1,400 students from 79 schools hit the slopes for the 64th annual Dotty Clark Memorial Races. And this season, about 3,000 students participated in SnowSchool, a program connecting kids to snow science and recreation. These programs serve as the cornerstone of Bogus Basin, embodying its dedication to accessibility and affordability for the community.

Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin winter operations offer 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200+ acres for night skiing; eleven lifts – including four high-speed quads – and three people-mover surface lifts; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest.
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is one of the largest non-profit recreation areas in the country.
