Bogus Basin Announces Holiday Events and Schedule

A Torchlight Parade, New Year’s Day Fireworks, and the launch of public bus service are happening at the non-profit recreation area

Boise, Idaho – December 22, 2023 – Bogus Basin is gearing up for a festive holiday season filled with events and activities for the entire family, highlighted by a spectacular Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show.

The Parade and Fireworks Show, planned for Monday, January 1st, 2024, is open to the community. Free cookies and hot chocolate, donated by Albertsons, will be served before the parade makes its way down Upper Ridge run above the Simplot Base Area. The Torchlight Parade begins at 6:15 pm, participants include Bogus Basin staff, volunteers, and special guests from the area’s non-profit partners, including Challenged Athletes Foundation. The Fireworks Show begins immediately after the parade, at 6:30pm. All lift operations will be suspended from 5:30 – 7:00 pm for the event.

This year’s Torchlight Parade features two Grand Marshals: General Manager Brad Wilson and Bogus Basin’s Board Chair, Pat Kelly. Wilson joined Bogus Basin in November 2015 and has led the area through a period of significant growth and change, adding improvements such as snowmaking, summer activities, and other enhancements. Kelly joined the Bogus Basin Board in 2019 and serves as Executive Director of Your Health Idaho, the state-run health insurance exchange. He enjoys Bogus Basin’s trails in both summer and winter.

Throughout the holiday season, Bogus Basin’s operating hours are 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, providing ample time for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy activities at the area. Please note that on Christmas Eve, the area will close early at 4:30 pm to allow staff to enjoy time with family and friends.


For those looking for a hassle-free way to get to Bogus Basin, public bus transportation public bus transportation to the area begins Tuesday, December 26th, including a new stop in Nampa, serving guests from Canyon County. The round-trip cost is $10, payable in cash only. For detailed information on bus pickup times and locations, visit bogusbasin.org.

About Bogus Basin
Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin winter operations offer 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200+ acres for night skiing; eleven lifts – including four high-speed quads – and three people-mover surface lifts; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest.

Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is one of the largest non-profit recreation areas in the country. It is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Bogus Basin summer activities include a challenge course, mountain coaster, summer tubing, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, gem panning station, The Basin Gravity Park, cross-country mountain biking and hiking, free community events and educational programs, chairlift service to access hiking and biking trails, and guided nature hikes.
