Bogus Basin Ski Patrol Proud
Year after year, Bogus Basin Ski Patrol continues to make incredible efforts to keep our community safe and provide educational opportunities for the next generation, all while receiving national recognition. We want to take this moment to acknowledge their incredible work on our mountain.
Bogus Basin Ski Patrol (BBSP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that functions as the primary safeguard at Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, ensuring the first line of safety for all guests. Bogus Basin Ski Patrol is led by Mountain Patrol Manager Devon Haire and consists of 60 paid patrollers, as well as 111 volunteer NSP patrollers. BBSP works on the mountain year-round, providing first aid and emergency transportation services to Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, the organization operates under a formal agreement with the National Forest Service.
2024 Ski Patrol Memorial Sweep
Each year, the Bogus Basin Ski Patrol memorializes lost Ski Patrollers in the Final Memorial Sweep. This is the perfect opportunity for the community to offer support to our dedicated fleet of patrollers.

The tradition
The Final Sweep is a long-standing tradition developed from the end-of-day sweep conducted by patrol during everyday operations. As each run closes for the day, a group of patrollers skis every run to ensure no one is left behind. Friends and family members of honorees are invited to join the entire patrol fleet as they descend down Ridge Run for the final ceremonial procession.
Honorees
This year, patrollers will honor Tom Muncy, Ted Dietz, Bob Entwistle, and Lester Downer. The Bogus Basin Ski Patrol will additionally honor Mike Shirley, former General Manager at Bogus Basin. Mike Shirley was a strong supporter of the Bogus Basin Ski Patrol and a key influence in Bogus Basin’s history.
Schedule
The Final Memorial Sweep procession is set to take place on March 9th, 2024 at 6:00 pm. Patrollers will assemble at the top of Ridge Run for the Final Sweep. Before the procession, families are invited to meet at the Ski Patrol building at 5:00 pm for a brief ceremony including reading in memoriams and an opportunity for people to speak.
She Jumps X Bogus Basin Ski Patrol
For the 7th season in a row, Bogus Basin Ski Patrol teamed up with SheJumps, another non-profit whose mission is to increase the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities. Bogus Basin Ski Patrol invited 39 participants to a Junior Ski Patrol day for intermediate to expert skiers/snowboarders ages 8-14. Participants split into teams based on their skiing and ability and learned all about outdoor skills that are utilized by ski patrollers to ensure the safety of the mountain. Topics included first aid, avalanche control, snow science, weather stations, toboggans, rescue techniques, and much more!
Award-Winning Ski Patrol
Each year, the National Ski Patrol recognizes Ski Patrollers on the National and Regional level. Bogus Basin Ski Patrol is recognized in the Pacific Northwest Division (PNWD).
Pam Carson, Recipient of the National Alpine Patroller of the Year Award
In 2023, Pam Carson received the top Alpine Patroller Award in the nation, recognized as the National Alpine Patroller of the Year.

About Bogus Basin Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is a 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin offers 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain, and 165 acres for night skiing; eleven lifts and three people-mover carpets; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Summer activities include the Glade Runner, a 4,251 foot mountain coaster, The Mine Shaft Challenge course, mountain biking, events, hiking and chairlift service for hike and bike transport.
