Today’s Guided nature Program…

MEET THE BUTTERFILIES

Meet the butterflies of the Bogus Basin area and learn to identify, watch, study and understand them at a fun and relaxed pace. Our guided nature program is structured in an informal, but informative way as an introduction to the natural history, study and appreciation of butterflies. This program is aimed at all levels: “watchers,” general natural history buffs, teachers, and “butterfly people” – but not “collectors”. This program is only one of the many guided nature programs offered this summer.

This Guided Nature Program will require access to the top of Deer Point via the Deer Point Express Chairlift. While participation in the Meet the Butterflies program is free, a fee will be required to access the chairlift. Participants will need to either purchase a scenic chairlift ticket ($19) from the Ticket Office prior to the program or they will need to be a Summer Season Pass or True Bogus Pass holder. Those who are looking to spend the entire day on the mountain should consider and Unlimited Day Pass if there’s interest in the Glade Runner Mountain Coaster or any of the Explorer Base Camp activities.

When & Where

This 2.5-hour outing will meet outside of the JR Simplot Lodge on the lawn at the Bogus Basin Visitor Info Pop-Up Tent at the above-stated time and will cover 1 mile or less at a very casual pace. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Water, snack and sunscreen are highly recommended. Remember to swing by the Double R Ranch BBQ Smokehouse for some food and drinks before or after the program!

To sign up for this or any of our awesome Guided Snowshoe Programs, please send an email to dirk@bogusbasin.org indicating the program you wish to register for, date, and the number of people in your group. Requests received less than 24 hrs. prior to the outing may not receive a response.

Meet your Guide!

Hit the trail with Ray Vizgirdas, retired Wildlife Biologist and lifelong Naturalist for this installment of our Guided Snowshoe Program series. With over three decades of experience working for state and federal agencies, Ray knows a thing or two about the outdoors (he has literally authored guidebooks about the flora at Bogus Basin!). On select Saturday afternoons, Ray will cover a new topic relevant to the time of year. Whether it’s winter animal adaptations or emergency snow shelters, you’re bound to learn a thing or two on your outing.
