The Nordic Season kicks off at Bogus Basin on Saturday, December 9th, with 15″ of new snow, the first Community Race Series event, and Nordic Fest– an opportunity for first-time Nordic skiers to try the sport for $5!
Bogus Basin offers 22.14 km of Nordic Trails, with stunning panoramic views of the Treasure Valley, Owyhee Mountains, and beyond. The Frontier Point Lodge is your base camp for all things Nordic, providing everything you need for a day on the trails, including Nordic ski rentals, lessons, tuning materials, and more!
In addition to Nordic experiences, The Frontier Point Lodge is also home to our Environmental Education team, who host a number of annual educational winter programs including: Guided Snowshoe Tours, SnowSchool, and Themed Snowshoe Programs. Snowshoes are available to rent at The Frontier Point Lodge.
Community race Series Skiathlon – Kicks Off The Nordic Season
On Saturday, December 9th, from 10 am – 12 pm, Bogus Basin hosted the annual Skiathlon, which is the first race of six Nordic races within our four-discipline Community Race Series. “The Skiathlon Race is one loop of classic cross-country skiing, followed by one lap of skate skiing,” explained Lettie Stratton, the Executive Director of the Bogus Basin Nordic Team. “Skiers race on Sapper’s Return and Red Tail, so they get to experience both disciplines.” The Bogus Basin Nordic Team is a non-profit Nordic ski team for athletes of all ages and abilities. Nordic Fest
Immediately following the Skiathlon, race participants and community members were invited to celebrate the start of the Nordic Skiing Season with Nordic Fest at Frontier Point Lodge from 12 pm – 4 pm. The event provided an opportunity for folks who had never Nordic skied before to visit Bogus Basin, purchase a discounted $5 ticket, enjoy free rentals, and try out the Frontier Point Trail System for the first time.

About Bogus Basin
Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin winter operations offer 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200+ acres for night skiing; eleven lifts – including four high-speed quads – and three people-mover surface lifts; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest.
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is one of the largest non-profit recreation areas in the country. It is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education.
